Some of us are guided by the stars, others follow maps but how many of us can say our sails brought us together. Roar and Sammy were both in the British Virgin Islands for a BVI Interline Regatta race when they locked eyes from across a dock. Samantha was supposed to be on a blind date with someone else when fate stepped in.

The Wedding
QUICK, is an understatement when it comes to Sammy and Roar’s engagement period. They were married four days after Roar proposed. Roar and Samantha knew how long the immigration process takes in Canada so they wasted no time getting started. The Justice of Peace married them in front of her parents and a few witnesses.

On June 11, 2004, they had a formal Viking ceremony and reception in Kalvoya Island in the Fjords.

The bride wore a raw silk gown bought in Old Quebec City at Excalibur Medieval Boutique. The brides black velvet cloak with her family’s antique Fraser clan crest and sword on it was purchased by the groom for the bride at an antique store in Scotland. The flowers in the bride’s hair were fresh wild flowers and strawberries found on the island.

The maid-of-honour made a medieval style gown and a knight costume for her husband.

The groom wore a suit from Excalibur Medieval Boutique in Old Quebec City.

Today
Samantha and Roar have been happily married for five and a half years and have a beautiful new baby girl named Freja, after the Nordic Goddess of Love.
