There's a cliché that says, “You'll find love when you’re not looking for it.” Veronica and Jakub’s meeting was exactly that; a conversation at a party that led to a first date a few weeks later.
Their first date was reminiscent of one of the most romantic scenes ever viewed. When Veronica describes the evening they spent together, you can’t help but think about Disney’s Lady and the Tramp; the scene where they shared the spaghetti strings in a romantic setting. “Our first date took place at a Woodbridge restaurant called Le Nave. I selected this because of his love for Italian food. We were the only two people there but we had a great time and the food was great!”
The Proposal
“Jakub proposed to me twice. Once was with a ring (not the actual ring) during a sushi dinner. Jakub placed the ring underneath a very peculiar sushi roll that the local chef prepared specially for this event. I picked up the roll and was about to eat it and the ring was stuck to the sticky Japanese rice and I almost swallowed it but it fell just before entering my mouth!”
“The second time was with the actual ring which was at our local Home Depot and just as I turned the aisle he got down on one knee and proposed. The employees heard what happened and got together and started clapping! It felt like a TV commercial! I loved that because it was completely unexpected and now when we go there, I always remember that moment."
The Wedding
The Ceremony was set up outdoors with gorgeous giant shrubs, which included parasols for the sun, prayer books and a runner with a love poem.
That day it poured. The backup was to have the ceremony indoors. When Jakub heard the ceremony was being moved indoors he quickly aborted that plan and insisted it be held outdoors. Some guests watched from indoors and others stayed outside with water pouring off the spindles of their umbrellas.
"When the minister said, 'You may kiss the bride' a sun ray burst out and everyone closed the umbrellas and [started] clapping. It was really romantic,” Veronica recalls.
Most Memorable Moment
“Having all of our friends and family there for us, to help us celebrate this special day, and, that I wore three fabulous gowns.”
The Bridal Gowns
The first gown Veronica wore was a gorgeous tulle gown with a mermaid silhouette and hand made Swarovski crystal beading at the bust line and the hem. It featured hand made flowers throughout the skirt that people like to refer to as feathers, but they are really flowers.
The second gown was a red carpet mermaid gown made of ice pink Italian silk taffeta and it featured a low back and hand made rouching throughout the gown.
The last gown was a micro-mini made of Ivory Lace with various sized pearls at the hemline and it featured a skin tone fabric underneath that made the Lace pop.
The Groom’s Attire
Jakub picked out a Carlo Pignatelli 3-piece suit, made of Silk Taffeta. The look and feel he was going for was a very European cut, with a tailored fit. Ines (Veronica's couture designer mother) “made” a silk off-white tie for him that accentuated the suit and was the same fabric and colour of his custom-made shirt. The shoes were lace-up Hugo Boss.
The Honeymoon
Jakub and Veronica took a three week vacation to Thailand and went to the Island of Koh Chang and Krabi on a peninsula called Railey.
"We went rock climbing on looming limestone cliffs, elephant tracking, jungle tracking and we took cooking classes. It was amazing. We also rented a scooter, which Jakub, again, nearly killed me with and I sported a giant bruise the size of a mango on my leg for the remaining two weeks of the trip!”
Veronica and Jakub’s Words of Wisdom
“Go somewhere where you can enjoy the scenery, but also engage in hobbies and take in the history and art of the culture/civilization.
