Beyond Burger Basics

You can smell it in the air, wafting over fences from yard to yard, it’s barbecue season Canada! This barbecue season, take your beef burgers beyond the basics.

Here’s a great new recipe to help you build better, more inspired, beef burgers. Of course, the best beef burgers start out with lean ground Canadian beef. If you’re looking for a more distinct beef flavour, try grinds like lean ground sirloin or lean ground chuck. These grinds from an individual cut source (like a sirloin steak) offer great value and versatility.

TIP: Lean ground Canadian beef not only tastes good, it will also helps you stay fit with 14 essential nutrients, including brain-boosting iron. Preparation: 5 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes

- 1 lb (500 g) Lean ground beef sirloin or chuck (or lean ground round beef, lean ground beef)
- 1/4 cup (50 mL) dry bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) steak sauce
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg, lightly beaten

Instructions:
1. Lightly combine beef, bread crumbs, steak sauce, onion and egg.

2. Gently form into four 3/4-inch (2cm) thick patties.

3. Grill over medium-high heat on lightly oiled grill for 5 to 7 minutes per side or until digital thermometer (inserted sideways into centre of each patty) reads 160 degrees F (71 degrees C).

Makes 4 patties
