Kyla Richards' incredibly detailed, custom sculptored cake toppers are created to look exactly like the bride and groom!
Kyla Richards has been creating clay sculptures for as long as she can remember. When she wanted a toy as a youngster her mother would encourage her to make her own.
At the young age of 16, her talent was discovered at a local trade show by a New Jersey toy company and they encouraged her to hone her skills under the watchful eye of their master sculptors. Not long after, her talent earned her a summer position at the company; creating Spawn characters alongside other sculptors.
Kyla Richards’ cake toppers, her new business venture, evolved organically by friends’ and families’ requests for unique portrait characters for weddings.
“Sculpting is like breathing, it just comes so naturally and I love the idea of sculpting something to celebrate the beginning of a life long relationship,” Kyla says.
A cake topper is made in a three part process. First, Kyla creates the head and facial features from a photograph. Second, the body is created and outfits are designed to specification by the client. Finally, the base is designed which can be customized to personalized hobbies or interests of the couple.
The cake toppers are created solely by Kyla and are made of polymer clay. They come in two standard heights 5.5 inches and 6.5 inches, but can be customized to a height of up to nine inches. The weight of a cake topper is one pound and can be made in any shade or colour. The cake topper will not fade or crack over time and has the durability of porcelain.
Kyla also creates sculptures for engagements, anniversaries, births, portraits, graduations and special occasions that can be done in fictional characters or custom designed characters. Anything you can imagine as long as it is nine inches or smaller.
