What's Under the Gown?

Undergarment solutions to wear with your gown for a bedazzling bust, trim tummy and beautiful booty.

Bridal designer for the stars, Amy Michelson, lets us in on her A-list accessories for creating a beautiful shape under your gown.

Supportive undergarments can enhance your shape and create smooth lines while holding everything in.

“Thank goodness for Spanx,” Michelson says. “With a gown in a soft fabric, this body shaper really sucks you in. Fitting just below the bra, it will tighten your tummy and smooth your bottom.”

The perfect thong for slinky gowns! “This is the absolute best panty I’ve ever seen. It leaves no visible panty line,” Michelson says. “The key is a seamless stretch microfiber with laser cut edges that creates a naked like construction.”

"Stick ‘em up," jokes Michelson. “The adhesive and reusable Seamless U NuBra is perfect for a backless gown. The plunging half cup designs allow the user to wear a deep cut neckline and the centre clasp gives extra cleavage.”

“Boob job in a box,” Michelson says. “I love these inserts whether wearing them with a T-shirt or a tiara. They fill out your bust line beautifully and add a cup size. Perfect if you need a little something-somthin!”

More tips for wedding undergarments

1. Get yourself measured professionally to make sure you’re buying the right size undergarments.

2. Look for seamless undergarments, which prevent texture and lines from showing through your dress.

3. Wearing a corset adds support and can take inches off your waist. We suggest looking for gowns with built-in corsets, which truly showcase an hourglass look. See the Gilles Montezin Bridal Collection for built-in corset gowns.

4. Bring your undergarments to your gown fitting. Let the expert seamstress customize your undergarments to your gown. For example, if you have an open back gown and your panty shaper is visible, than have the seamstress adjust the shaper by cutting and sewing it, so it’s no longer visible.

5. Many brides often lose weight just before their wedding, so make sure you try on your undergarments at your final fitting with your gown, as they may need to be altered for a perfect fit.
