When I think of St. Lucia, I think of lush rainforests, stunning natural landscape, gorgeous palm - fringed beaches and of course the Piton Mountains.
Saint Lucia has been voted several times over as the World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination by the World Travel Awards so it is only natural that this romantic island is an ideal choice for couples planning a destination wedding.
Just imagine standing on the beach exchanging your vows, your backdrop is not only the Caribbean Sea but the majestic Piton Mountains...GORGEOUS!!!! The island offers many natural and beautiful locations to choose from and you will be guaranteed to have a picturesque natural backdrop for your ceremony.
It is very easy to get married in St. Lucia and there is no residency requirement if you apply for a “special” license. You can actually get married on the day of arrival or if you are on a cruise and Saint Lucia is a port of call you can have your ceremony on the island.
Here is what the typical process would be:
- Hotel wedding coordinator emails all the documents and forms
- Bride and Groom fill out the forms and returns them to coordinator
- For SAME DAY you will have to mail the forms back to the coordinator so all is in order for you to get married as soon as you arrive on island. There is an extra fee for the additional paper work but it is typically an extra $85.00. Also, note that there is a government fee / admin fee that you will need to pay, which is approximately $500.00 US.
Here is what you will need:
- Original state-issued birth certificate or a valid passport
- All pages of the court certified final divorce decree (if applicable)
- State issued death certificate with related marriage certificate (if applicable)
- Legal name changes or legal adoption papers (if applicable)
- Notarized documents are not accepted
- Residency requirement of 72 hours – must include 3 business days but remember you can apply for a “special license” to waive the 72 hour residency requirement
For more information on wedding requirements please contact the St. Lucian tourism board or your preferred travel professional.
In closing, Saint Lucia is one of my personal favourite destinations; tranquil beaches, historic plantations, rustic churches, lush beautiful gardens along with warm Caribbean hospitality, Saint Lucia truly is unforgettable.
Cheers,
Gina
