Since 2001 the destination wedding market has increased by 400%. There are many reasons for this but mainly our society has changed and the “bride” has evolved. Destination weddings are not a trend, they are here to stay.
In the past, the typical bride was in her early twenties, lived with her parents and had her mother plan her wedding. Today, the bride-to-be is older, has more money to spend and she doesn’t require the typical wedding gifts that she would receive with a traditional wedding in order to open her new home. Brides-to-be reading this please note, proper etiquette with a destination wedding is not to expect gifts from your guests as their presence at your wedding is your gift.
So who is she? She is a confident career woman, who is financially stable and most likely lives on her own or with her fiancé. This bride-to-be wants to have the wedding of her dreams but not necessarily a traditional wedding. Combining her wedding with her honeymoon is practical, economical and her main concern is to marry the man of her dreams while sharing her day with the most important people in her life.
Cheers,
Gina
